About
Jennifer Smith is a 24-year-old geek from central New Jersey who has just begun the PhD program in media and cultural studies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Her primary interest is comic books, and she blogs about them with the other lovely ladies over at Fantastic Fangirls. Here at Trampling Through The Brush, Jennifer is most likely to be found blogging about her life and her other interests, including musical theatre, movies of dubious quality, music of even more dubious quality, cancelled television shows, novels of various eras, liberal politics, and her first love, writing.
Jennifer unabashedly adores “nice guys” in fiction (the kinds of characters others might call “dishrags” or “Boy Scouts”), and her biggest pet peeve is the dismissal of so-called “low art,” like comics. She enjoys devoting academic attention to texts outside the literary canon, and wrote her senior undergrad thesis at Princeton on the cultural work of Captain America. Phone Tetris is her favorite form of procrastination, she enjoys trivia games of all kinds, and she still thinks LOLcats are funny. On the rare occasions she gets to go home to New Jersey, Jennifer can most likely be found at her local diner with friends, especially if it’s 2:00 in the morning.
